Bedwetting Responsibility TrainingBedwetting is very common among children and rarely in adults too. It can cause an awkwardness and stress among children and even their families too. Children get control over bladder only after attaining the age of 5 and there is no proper treatment for bedwetting. However, as a part of non-pharmacologic treatments responsibility training for bedwetting treatment among children has been conducted. With the technique of responsibility training, the child is given with a suitable responsibility according to age, in a non-disciplinary method, as a penalty for bedwetting. For an example, older children may be asked to do the laundry of the wet bed sheets and younger children may be asked to change the wet bed sheets or linen, etc. This responsibility training has been done as a part of bedwetting treatment. Studies reveal that about 35 percent of parents generally give punishments to their child for wetting the bed at night. Therefore a family education much needed to treat the bedwetting problem. Both the parents and children must know that the problem of bedwetting is common. The parents must be instructed not to guilt or shame the child for bedwetting. The parents can make potential improvement in the child by making them responsible for other jobs as punishment, but not as disciplinary way, for achieving the bladder control during night. In the method of responsibility training for bedwetting treatment requires the child is being given a responsibility suitable to his/her age for wetting bed at night. It is also pertinent to note that child does not feel like a feeling of is being punished. An assigned task is set for the child when he/she wet the bed. Even after a few months also being stopped, the bedwetting may occur. Normally, we can point out the reason behind the bedwetting like excessive drinking of water before going to bed, caffeine, tiredness, etc. Even also for this bedwetting, he should aware of that he has to do responsibilities like washing bed sheets, change his bed sheets, etc. If he had to take responsibilities like this, he has to remind himself that he cannot drink excess level of water before going to bed. And for this he/she should be motivated or made understand or explained that what responsibilities he has to do by himself, by bedwetting. These responsibilities will help your child to improve his feeling of self-respect and control parent’s angry over a wet bed. You can also ask your child to use bedwetting alarm for further monitoring of the responsibility system. By this, when the child is wetted his bed, the alarm starts to turn on, it makes him wake up from the bed. You can assigned the tasks like change the under clothes, wet bed sheets and clean the mattresses, etc when the alarm is on. |
