Bedwetting Medications

Medicines which are used to treat bedwetting will either increase the bladder capacity or decrease the quantity of urine kidneys released. These drugs are normally used to temporarily control the bedwetting problem not as permanent cure for this disorder.

Enuresis medicines certainly do a great amount to control the bedwetting for short period such as during sleepovers, school trips, camps, etc. From time to time these drugs are used with other treatments for children or those children who cannot control the bedwetting during other treatments. These medicines will help to motivate or give confidence to your child who is experienced problems with other treatments by allowing the child to believe what it is going to have dry nights.

In some cases, if a bladder of small capacity or overactive bladder is considered to be the reason for bedwetting, especially if the child has day-time unintentional wettings. These medications are not usually used to treat the problem of bedwetting in children younger than 8 years old. Generally, most of the children start bedwetting when these medications are stopped.

In common, your doctor may prescribe bedwetting medications as a last option. There are 3 kinds of enuresis medicines and 1 homeopathic medicine which are usually used to cure the bedwetting. They are namely, Impramine, Desmopressin (DDAVP), Oxybutynin and Hyland's Homeopathic Bed Wetting Tablets.

DDAVP

DDAVP is an enuresis medicine to treat the children having bedwetting problem. Even though, DDAVP does not cure the bedwetting, it helps to treat the symptoms of bedwetting whilst the child is under medication. Studies report that there is reduction in the number of bedwetting or wet nights.

Imipiramine

Imipiramine is used for treating children with bedwetting for several years. Studies of this medicine report that there is a complete dryness in 10 to 15 percentages of children who have affected with bedwetting problem; even some children, who are not completely cured by using this drug, but shown a considerable improvement,.

Oxybutynin

Oxybutynin drugs which are used as part of bedwetting medications, decrease or end bladder contractions and boost the capacity of bladder. This medicine is useful for children especially who have daytime wetting because of bladder contractions. In some children who do not respond to DDAVP, the mix of Oxybutynin and DDAVP is helpful to control the problem of bedwetting in children by restricting the bladder to full especially at night.

These bedwetting medications will increase or decrease the capacity of bladder. They control the bedwetting for the time being and not as a treatment to totally cure the condition. These medications are perfect for the use as per situations like night trips, sleepovers, camp, etc. These drugs are also used with other conditional and behavioral therapies to prevent the bedwetting. Bedwetting medications are generally not used for younger children especially under the age of 5, because they may gain night time control when they grew older.
