Children and BedwettingBedwetting is a very common problem in children and it can affect adolescents also. It has an effect on both boys and girls but it most occurs in boys than girls. Bedwetting can cause awkwardness and stress among children and their families. Studies reveal that the capability to control the bladder can take longer period to build up in some children up to the age of 5. It is rare that the cause for the bedwetting is any medical disorder. The most often chance of the bedwetting is the family history. Children get control over bladder after attaining the age of 5. It is not uncommon of bedwetting by younger children and there is no need for any treatment for kids. Even though your children are bedwetting after attaining the age of 5 years, you should seek a professional’s advice on your toddler problem. Ensure that doctor is briefed about your child’s daytime and night time bathroom habits, drink/food habits, etc. Doctor may follow a physical exam of your child and an analysis of urine after required tests to find the cause of the kid’s bedwetting. The doctor will also check up for any problems in the urinary tract or in the bladder to find out the cause for bedwetting. However it is doubtful about the relation between bedwetting and emotional disturbances in children, however changes in family atmosphere may result in boosting the kids bedwetting accidents. We are not born with any control over our bladder, it gradually develops and this reduces chance of bedwetting. The baby’s bladder is automatically gets emptied when it’s filled. Gradually children learn how to make control over their bladder and they also learn to feel when it gets filled so that urination can be controlled by themselves. Almost all the children who attains the age of 3 are dry during day time. And they will be dry at night in the beginning of school age. But they are considered as normal to occasionally be wet during night and also in the day hours till the age of 5. Most of the bedwetting children usually stop wetting their beds without any treatment. But if any assistance is needed, a doctor will make sure first that there is any physical cause for the kids bedwetting or not. Then they will choose the most appropriate action to curb/reduce the problem. The remedy actions for toddler bedwetting include bladder training programs, use of bedwetting alarms, behavioral techniques, medication, etc. Mostly the children do not need for any treatment unless the doctor feels that he/she may take medicines or to undergo behavioral therapy so as to teach control over bedwetting problem. Parents can encourage their children, praise their successes, or ignore bedwetting, etc and never punish them. Caffeine contained foods/drinks to be restricted to the children bed wetting. Remember to avoid putting your children in the toilet during night period, this may cut down wet beds but it will not improve the control over bladder. |
